Check this guy "gideonford" out. I'm gently ribbing him and he's taking the bait.
The question is do Americans care what the rest of the world thinks about muscle cars. He says no, I say yes

Pretty sure it's against Oppo rules to outright call a person out like this. Especially if you do it by name.

I think you European folks are misinterpreting what a muscle car was. I say "was" because you can't get a new muscle car anymore as their time has passed. The muscle car was any normal grocery-getter car family car that had a big ass engine stuffed in it for cheap - think around $20-25k in today's money.
The Mustang certainly was never a muscle car (Pony Car yes but even now you can't get a $20k V8 Mustang) and the Corvette was always a sports car, never meant for sale as a muscle car - this is why it escaped GM's self-imposed advertised 1hp:10lb rule in the '60s and '70s.
Now onto your question, I'd say American companies care what the rest of the world thinks about our "muscle" cars because we need them to sell and foreigners still think US cars are big floaty junk barges. Hopefully the 'Stangs smaller engine offerings and handling will change this opinion.
TheBloody, Oppositelock lives on in our shitposts.

Let me guess:
Muscle car = large-ish car with a huge engine, every penny pinched on every part of the car that isn't the engine.
Anyway, the muscle part of the conversation was merely a misunderstanding I'd guess. It's the butthurt reactions of the other guy that were interesting.

Pretty sure its exempted if its on FP already and they don't travel into oppo-verse. Particularly, when they're a burner and they're insulting other people.

That sounds like a European's view of a muscle car. In reality (or I guess in the US) a muscle car was a regular family car (mid-size by our standards at the time) with the engine out of a larger full-size car. For example, the Pontiac Tempest was a perfectly affordable family car with a straight-6 or 4 cylinder engine, but by dropping in the larger 389ci V8 engine Pontiac made a performance vehicle that was still in reach by almost every family looking to buy a car. Today it would be like taking a Ford Fusion and stuffing the 365hp Ecoboost V6 under the hood and selling it for around $25,000.

I think that everyone is a little confused here - your point about Ford doing an international launch event for the Mustang doesn't really prove that Americans care about what the rest of the world thinks of our muscle cars, it proves that Ford cares about what the rest of the world thinks about a product that needs to sell well. Muscle cars are a trend that could have only started and flourished in this country (and Australia, to be fair) and represent a cornerstone of our car culture. Americans have always been aware that most of the world looks at them with a mixture of fascination and disdain, but he's right that we don't care.

Nope, I don't think that's an addendum to that rule. I mean, I could be wrong, but according to the handbook rules 1-3 are being broken right here. Yes, I have zero power in enforcing them but just because someone is being "dumb" doesn't mean you get some free pass to do a public hanging like this. especially since more often than not, it's not that the person is dumb, just that they disagree with your opinion or there is a culture gap or something or another.

You'd be surprised. There's a lot of admiration for American metal out there. After all, we all grew up watching American movies. The floaty barge image is gone, and there's a huuuge amount of jealousy at your fuel prices

You can share a reply from FP to oppo but sharing his post and then making another post to call him out on it is excessive.

hahaha well you guys don't really need to be jealous - our roads are crumbling and every time gas goes up a few cents it's a major news story. Sigh . I've always guessed having an American car in Europe was like a fashion statement or something flashy.

I listen to the BBC on the internet while at work. When the UK looks to raise gas taxes by a pence or two per liter the fan gets introduced to the intestinal byproducts in a big way. Like truckers and buses threatening to strike big news. In fairness 1 pence per liter is roughly equivalent to about 6 cents per gallon depending on the exchange rate.

Gas going up 0.5p is a news story here. Hell I can drive 2 miles and find stations with a 3p difference.

Another example.
Adjusting for inflation, a 1969 Nova SS L78 (396/375) with a 4 speed transmission would cost $21,375 in 2013 dollars. Same car was available as a 4 door with a wheezy 4 cyl as well.
This was a compact car, mind you.
You just can't walk into a dealership and throw "the big engine" in anymore. This would be like going in and buying a Cobalt and springing for the LS3 engine.

It's not that gideonford is dumb, he actually has a pretty logical argument which is backed by everyone (including some of the people on oppo). It is neither a troll party or burner baiting (since it's only speedmonkey doing the baiting), but a comment on how butthurt/insulted someone can be about car culture.
